| In anticipation of Earth Day 2012, Lakeland will offer students, faculty and staff the chance to take part in activities that will increase awareness of being mindful of the environment.
Lakeland paved the way to “green” thinking on campus beginning with conscientious facilities decisions that supported sustainable practices. Lakeland has been recognized by numerous groups for its efforts, click here for more information. Earth Day Scavenger Hunt From April 12–23, Lakeland’s student-run newspaper, The Lakelander, will be sponsoring an Earth Day-themed scavenger hunt. Details of the hunt will be listed in the April 12th issue of The Lakelander. The guidelines include a list of environmentally friendly items or places on campus. Students who are currently enrolled this semester are eligible for the chance to win the grand prize, a Sylvania notebook computer. Other prizes include food certificates to Breakers. For more information, call Sue Zimmerman at 440-525-7462. Campus Clean-Up Days On April 24–25 all students and college employees are welcome to join in on campus clean-up days. Student Green Group advisor, Associate Professor Lisa Lewins, and her team will lead the effort to clean up the campus. Participants are asked to bring gloves and meet in front of the Clocktower at 8 a.m. each morning to collect trash. For more information, call 440-525-7339. Paper Recycling Challenge Last year, the college recycled over 21 tons of paper through the ABITBI Paper Retriever bins. The facilities department is challenging everyone to beat the previous year’s record of the amount of paper recycled. Faculty, staff and students may bring recyclable paper from home to put directly into the ABITIBI bins. For more information, call Linda Daly at 440-525-7237.
