Student Loans are awarded to students who are actively enrolled in the
nursing program at Lakeland Community College. To be eligible for
the Nursing Student Loan the student must complete the Free Application
for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Nursing students who do not automatically
receive Nursing Student Loans as part of their award package may indicate
their interest in receiving the loan by submitting a written request to
the Financial Aid Office. Students who accept the Nursing Student
Loan award must contact the Accounting Department at Lakeland at the start
of each term to sign their promissory note to activate the loan.
The maximum Nursing Student Loan is $2400 per year. Part-time students may receive the maximum award provided that the award does not exceed their need. Interest The interest rate is five (5) percent per annum. Interest shall accrue from the beginning of the repayment period. Repayment Repayment begins nine months after the student ceases to be enrolled for at least six credit hours at a minimum of $40 per month. The borrower has up to ten years to repay the Nursing Student Loan. Periods of authorized deferments are not included as part of the ten-year repayment period. Nursing Student Loan Payments may be made quarterly. However, if the borrower is more than 60 days past due on a payment, the remaining balance of the loan shall be repaid on a monthly basis. Exit Interview The Nursing Student Loan borrower must attend
an exit interview prior to completing or terminating full or half-time
enrollment status at Lakeland.
