Support for students in a variety of Information Systems courses is provided by the data center staff. The data center in room C-1064 houses a lab with 48 workstations for use by students taking mainframe and AS/400 courses. It also houses the P/390 mainframe, AS/400, Oracle and Linux academic systems.
Data center staff are on site during the days and evenings to assist students with their course lab work. This includes helping with access to the systems, answering questions and printing programs and reports. During semester breaks they refresh the lab workstations and student accounts on the various systems.
Backups for the data center systems and all the other college administrative
systems is also their responsibility. They follow a daily backup schedule and
then record and store these tapes for archiving and the possibility of disaster
recovery. Centralized printing of special forms, grade cards, labels and large
reports is also performed for all college departments.
